The North Central Texas city's motto is "Where the West Begins" and is considered to be a gateway to the American West. Fort Worth was created in 1849 as a U.S. Army outpost and the U.S. Navy's USS Fort Worth is named after the city. The city was a stop of the famous Chisholm Trail for cattle drives.
