The city of Gilroy is located in the Santa Clara County of California. The area which is now Gilroy, was first discovered in 1776 and was formerly inhabited by the Ohlone indians. It was later established as the city of Gilroy in the late 19th century; it was formerly known as Pleasant Valley. The city of Gilroy is nicknamed the "Garlic Capital of the World," due to its many garlic crops and ts annual Gilroy Garlic Festival.
