About Portmagee

Located on the Iveragh Peninsula, this Irish village in County Kerry was presented the Failte Ireland National Tourism Town Award in 2012 for its hospitality. Portmagee received its name in the 18th Century from a smuggler named Captain Theobald Magee. It is often the starting point for visitors to Skellig Michael - a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site with ruins of a Christian monastery built sometime between the 6th and 8th centuries.
