The Southwestern Florida city contains many historical places such as A.C. Freeman House, Punta Gorda Ice Plant, Old First National Bank of Punta Gorda, Villa Blanca and Punta Gorda Atlantic Coast Line Depot. Punta Gorda was settled in 1882 and has been referred to by name since the 1850s. Other notable sites include Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Center, Military Heritage Museum. Muscle Car City Museum and Punta Gorda History Park.
