Home to Spain's largest theme park PortAventura and the water park Costa Caribe, the Spanish city along Spain's Costa Daurada - or Golden Coast - is a popular tourist destination. Salou had been used as a port by the Greeks and Romans since at least the 6th century B.C. It was the location where James I of Aragon and his fleet departed from in 1229 to conquer the Balearic Islands. Salou is also known for its beautiful beaches and sunny weather. In addition to its theme parks, other points of interest are Passeig Jaume I, Monument to Jaume I, Font lluminosa, Torre Vella, Church of Santa Maria del Mar and Llevant Beach.
