About San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Formerly known as San Diego Wild Animal Park, this 1,800-acre popular attraction near Escondido, California has more than 2,600 animals making up more than 300 species in a wide array of habitats such as Nairobi Village, Gorilla Forest, African Woods, African Outpost, Lion Camp, Tiger Territory, World Garden, Condor Ridge, Asian Savanna and African Plains. San Diego Zoo Safari Park opened in 1972 and offers many safari options including Cart Safari, Cheetah Safari, Behind-the-Scenes Safari, Flightline Safari and Caravan Safari to view the nature reserve's wild creatures. It also features 1.5 million plants representing 3,500 species. Special park activities at selected times are Balloon Safari, Lemur Walk, Cheetah Run, Conservation Carousel, Lorikeet Landing, Petting Kraal, Frequent Flyers Bird Show, Elephant Keeper Talk, Nairobi Station, Village Playground, Savanna Cool Zone, Jameson Research Island and Samburu Jungle Gym.
