About Washington Place

Located in the The Hawaii Capital Historic District, this stunning Greek Revival structure was the site where Queen Liliʻuokalani was arrested in 1893 when the Kingdom of Hawaii was overthrown. Washington Place was built in 1847 by Isaac Hart on three acres of land in Honolulu. It was the official residence of the Hawaiian governor starting in 1918 until a new building was constructed in 2008 on the same grounds. Washington Place is a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
